How Acupuncture Can Help Infertility
63
An increasing amount of women are putting off raising a baby until
their upper 30s and early
40s than ever recorded. Approximately twenty percent of women who are
aged 35-39 are without children in 2002 according to the U.S. Census
Report on Fertility
in America. Approximately 35 years ago, just ten
percent of women in that age group had never had a child.
Since a woman's fertility is reduced more as they become older, an
increasing amount of women are
having trouble getting pregnant. As a result, additional fertility
treatments for women and men have grown over the past decade.
However, with all the fertility treatments, and assisted reproductive technologies such as ivf (in vitro fertilization), iui, and prenatal care for women today, many doctors and women are crediting their successful pregnancy to a 1,000 year old traditional Chinese practice known as Acupuncture. It is an age-old treatment that has not lost any of is power to influence childbirth.
Acupuncture and Infertility
Acupuncture appears to assist some women due to the improvement in circulation to the ovaries which makes the eggs healthier — and to the uterus which makes the chances greater that the uterine wall lining will be able to sufficiently secure the eggs to completion.
Moreover, studies provide proof that acupuncture does raise blood flow to the endometrium, assisting in building a thick rich lining.
Dr. Raymond Chang, a medical director with New York's Meridian Medical Group states that "Acupuncture provides better circulation and better blood flow to the womb. It will give a better chance for the eggs to be nourished and therefore carried". His group has been offering acupuncture with fertility treatments for over ten years.
There's also the fact that acupuncture can be a stress-reliever during an emotional time.
Many women who select acupuncture are combining it with tried and true
infertility treatments. The reason is some couples who have done numerous IVF cycles or some other form of fertility treatment have not seen the expected outcome they desired. So, they choose acupuncture as it may better their odds.
In addition, fertility treatments can be significantly pricey. As an example,
intrauterine insemination could run people a thousand dollars and up and just one cycle of
IVF can set you back $10,000 to $20,000. Therefore, couples are seeking other alternatives that may potentially provide them with a better chance of conception.
A center that offers sound and licensed acupuncture is the Domar Center in Massachusetts along with other holistic mind and body programs.
